“Empowering Farmers through Mushroom Cultivation: SARP’s Hands-On Training Program Enhances Agricultural Practices”

The Smallholder Agribusiness and Resilience Project (SARP) successfully conducted a comprehensive Mushroom Cultivation and Management Training Program for farmers from Prabodhagama and Kadawath Rambewa G.N. Divisions on August 30, 2024,. The initiative aimed to enhance agricultural practices and address the growing demand for mushrooms, a low-cost source of protein that is increasingly sought after in Sri Lanka.
The training program provided participants with practical skills in various aspects of mushroom farming, including substrate preparation, spawn inoculation, and effective pest management. Farmers engaged in hands-on activities that equipped them with the necessary knowledge to initiate and manage their own mushroom farms, thereby promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
Notably, the program witnessed active participation from women and young people, highlighting the inclusive approach towards empowering diverse segments of the farming community. By fostering these skills, the training not only aims to boost individual income opportunities but also supports the broader goal of enhancing food security and resilience within local communities.
