“Community-Led Tree Planting Initiatives for Ecosystem Restoration and Sustainable Development: A Case Study of Anuradhapura’s Thirappane Kudakanamulla Area”

In alignment with the focus of World Environment Day 2024 on land restoration, halting desertification, and enhancing drought resilience, a noteworthy tree planting program was recently conducted in Anuradhapura’s Thirappane Kudakanamulla area. The initiative, led by the Smallholder Agribusiness and Resilience Project (SARP), underlines the significance of protecting and revitalizing ecosystems to meet Sustainable Development Goals.
The program attracted active participation from students, the local community, and various government stakeholders, including the forest department. Together, they joined forces to enrich the catchment area through tree planting activities, showcasing a strong commitment to environmental conservation and sustainability.
