Stocking of fingerlings and prawn larvae in tanks in the Puttalam district

The stocking of fingerlings and prawn larvae in tanks in the Puttalam district commenced on 23rd January 2024. The event took place at the Wathupola tank in Pallama, Puttalam, with Mrs. Sherina Tabassum, the IFAD Country Director of Maldives and Sri Lanka, serving as the chief guest. The program was led by SARP project director Mr. Gayan Mallawatissa and implemented with the support of the National Aquatic Development Authority and financial backing from the International Fund for Agrarian Development.

A total of 25,000 fingerlings and prawn larvae were stocked in the tanks, and the event was attended by the District Secretary of Puttalam, the Divisional Secretary of Pallama, Assistant Commissioner of Agrarian Development and representatives from NAQDA. The initiative aims to stock fingerlings and prawn larvae in 72 selected annual and perennial tanks in Mannar, Vavuniya, Anuradhapura, Matale, Kurunegala, and Puttalam districts. Additionally, village farmers also took part in the program.
