A groundnut cultivation project has been launched, targeting 1,500 farmers across the districts of Puttalam, Kurunegala, Vavuniya, Mannar, and Anuradhapura. Under this initiative, 750 acres of land have been allocated for groundnut cultivation. Farmers have been provided with the necessary seeds and practical training through agricultural field schools.
Additionally, a plan has been developed to introduce value-added groundnut products to the market, ensuring better profitability for farmers. The total expenditure for this project amounts to LKR 25 million. A total of 30,000 kg of groundnut seeds have been distributed among the farmers, all of whom have already commenced cultivation.
It is anticipated that this groundnut cultivation will yield an expected harvest of 800 kg per acre during the 2024-25 Maha season.
